Leach Music Studio currently has over 40 students. I am available to teach students age 5 through adults. Lessons are 60 minutes in length, structured with 30 minutes of private instruction and 30 minutes of self-guided written theory and computer lab time. Seven times each year, students attend a 60-minute lesson with other students of similar age and playing ability. Each group lesson (piano club) covers music theory, music history and gives students an opportunity to perform prepared pieces for one another in a relaxed atmosphere through games and other activities.
As a member of Plano Music Teachers Association, which is part of Texas Music Teachers Association and Music Teachers National Association, students are eligible to participate in all affiliated events. PMTA hosts four festivals, the state theory exam and other events each year, all of which I encourage my students to participate as they are capable. The festivals are performed for ratings from a judge; students are given constructive comments and earn a rating and a corresponding ribbon. After three years of any one festival, they have the opportunity to earn a trophy. Nearly all of my students receive either Superior or Superior+ ratings. The state theory exam is taken by students all over Texas; medals can be earned for scores 90 or above; the majority of my students receive medals, bronze, silver and gold. In addition to PMTA events, students may participate in the State Ensemble program, All-Star Festival and other fun events at the TMTA convention each year, a wonderful opportunity to perform with other students on the sixteen grand pianos on stage! I have one informal recital before the Christmas holidays and one formal recital in May; students also have the opportunity to share their talents at informal recitals at area nursing homes.
